July 2011 Eco-Tip: Bin Your Brewing Bags!
Oh we do love a cup of tea in the UK, there's no doubt about it. In fact, we drink around 165 million cups of tea ever year.
Of those 165 million cups, 96% are made using a tea bag, but have you ever thought about what goes into making those tea bags, even if they are FairTrade and organic? Tea bags require more processing and packaging and so more energy is used in their production, not to mention all the raw materials that go into making the string, the staples, the tags, the mesh etc... And, after use, bags are harder to compost than loose tea.
So, because it is far better environmentally (not to mention taste-wise), bin your brewing bags, buy a tea infuser, and switch to loose tea instead.
