Seasonal food

footprint

For Reflection

How aware are you of what food grows in which season? Make a concerted effort to learn more: peek over allotment fences to see what’s growing; see what’s being sold at your Farmers’ Market etc.

footprint

One-hit Wonder

Carry out an audit of your weekly/monthly shopping and work out how much of it reflects the season that you are in (eg. spring mackerel, summer asparagus, autumn lamb, winter kale…).

footprint

Occasional

Stop buying one thing that is not in season and replace it with something that is. Do that regularly.

footprint

One-hit Wonder

Get hold of a recipe book that takes you through the seasons.

footprint

Repeating Challenge

Learn to enjoy and appreciate the gluts and fasts that the seasons bring (will it really harm you if you only eat strawberries for a couple of months in the summer?).

footprint

Repeating Challenge

Learn how to store and preserve so that the gluts and fasts don’t become too overwhelming!

footprint

Occasional

Use only local, in-season food for your Christmas lunch.
