Find out more about your local wildlife. As a start, why not join a walk with your local Wildlife Trust, or take part in the Big Garden Bird Watch.

Keep a list of all the wildlife species you see in or over your garden (birds, butterflies, mammals, insects etc). You may need to invest in a couple of (second hand!) wildlife books. If you share your home with others, keep the list somewhere where everybody can see and add to it.

Join your local Natural History Society or a conservation society. Details of these will often be available in your local library.

Get the kids involved! Take your kids, grandchildren, or friends' kids on a bug hunt or nature treasure-hunt. Or go pond dipping and see what you can find.
